Booth in Taiwan: A Weekend in Taipei [Video]

If you’re looking to jet over to Taiwan for the weekend, then you might find yourself in a place with so much to do and so little time. So here are some recommendations for a weekend getaway in the capital of this wonderful country – Taipei.

First and foremost, if you really want to explore the city, then getting lost is the key. And the best way to get lost is with the YouBike rental system. Located near various stations around the city, the YouBike system allows you to pick up any bicycle and drop it back off at any official YouBike parking lot. All you need is a credit card and a sense of adventure.

Once you have a bright yellow YouBike, you can either proceed to get lost in the city, or use one of the local maps to help you find your way to the nearest sightseeing destination.

Of course the number one sightseeing destination that you HAVE to visit, is the skyscraper Taipei 101. One of the tallest buildings in the world, Taipei 101 has one hundred and one floors (although you can only go as high as 99) and boasts one of the world’s first dampers: a device used to prevent collapse during typhoons and earthquakes.

For your second day in Taipei, it’s worth your while to take the hour trip to the fabled Jiufen – the inspiration for the movie Spirited Away.

The shabby looking shopping streets offer anything from sweets to treats, so keep your mouth watering and your wallet ready. And don’t forget to visit the quaint little tea shop in the heart of Juifen.

Of course there’s plenty more to do in Taiwan and Taipei, but if you only have a limited time, then these are the must-do items… so check them out!
